Hiking & Exploration
Travel through changing landscapes, navigate the unknown and learn to manage effort, pace and responsibility along the way.
INTRODUCING THE FLAGSHIP EXPEDITION
A mobile outdoor education expedition designed around your school, your learners and your purpose. We bring the programme to the outdoors, creating space for challenge, connection and meaningful learning across the Garden Route and beyond.
What if the adventure centre didn't have to be a place you travelled to, but a programme that could travel with you?
The outdoors is our classroom.
GRITC OLC is a mobile adventure centre. We design and facilitate outdoor programmes in suitable landscapes, bringing the experience to the environment rather than depending on one permanent base.
For INDLELA, that means a school's expedition can move through a carefully planned route, with different camps, changing terrain and purposeful experiences along the way. The landscape becomes part of the learning, not just the backdrop.
And because every school, grade and set of learning goals is different, the route and programme are designed around the people taking part.
The programme goes to suitable outdoor environments, with location and logistics planned around the brief.
Group structure, duration and experiences are shaped around your learners and your school's objectives.
Hiking, activities and time in camp create opportunities for responsibility, connection and meaningful learning.
We don't just take learners outdoors. We design what happens when they get there.
Taking an entire grade into the outdoors takes more than a destination. It takes a system. INDLELA brings the moving parts together through smaller groups, coordinated rotations and a carefully designed expedition route.
One shared expedition, designed around your school.
More opportunity to participate, contribute and connect.
Movement, activities and camps planned as one system.
Prepare, settle in and take responsibility.
Travel together through the landscape.
Meet a challenge and learn through experience.
Reflect, recover and prepare for the next stage.
The journey keeps moving. Each stage connects to the next, creating a shared expedition made up of smaller group experiences.
Depending on the route and activity schedule, groups can follow staggered rotations. While one group hikes to its next camp, another can take part in an activity nearby. This helps the programme keep moving without requiring every learner to do everything at the same time.
Every route, rotation, campsite and activity must work together safely and realistically. The final structure is designed around the grade size, terrain, available sites, staffing, conditions and the school's objectives.
Every stage of INDLELA creates opportunities to explore, contribute, take responsibility and discover what is possible when learners step beyond the familiar. The activities may change. The intention stays the same.
From navigating unfamiliar terrain to solving a challenge together, learners encounter situations that ask them to think, communicate, adapt and contribute.
Activities are selected around the group, learning goals, environment, conditions and available resources. Not every expedition includes every activity.
Travel through changing landscapes, navigate the unknown and learn to manage effort, pace and responsibility along the way.
Work with limited resources, test ideas, communicate clearly and discover how different contributions can move a group forward.
Encounter personal challenge in a managed environment, practise communication and make choices about participation within agreed safety boundaries.
Read the landscape, interpret information, make decisions and work together to find a way forward.
Experience the outdoors from a different perspective, developing awareness, coordination and respect for the environment and its conditions.
Share practical responsibilities, care for equipment, work as a team and learn what it takes to look after yourself and others outdoors.
The real value comes from how learners engage with the experience, make sense of it and connect it to life beyond the expedition.
Take part, encounter a challenge and get involved.
Explore what happened, what mattered and why.
Connect learning to relationships, school and everyday life.
The adventure creates the opportunity. The learning comes from what we do with it.
Discover the learning behind the journey ↗A meaningful expedition is about more than where learners go or what they do. It is about the opportunities they encounter, the decisions they make, the people they learn alongside and the lessons they carry home.
Different people. Shared experiences. New perspectives.
INDLELA uses purposeful outdoor experiences to create opportunities for learners to practise skills that matter in school, in relationships and in life.
A challenge might reveal how a group communicates under pressure. A shared camp responsibility might create space for accountability. A demanding hike might prompt learners to reconsider perseverance, pacing or how they support someone else.
These outcomes are not automatic. They are supported through intentional facilitation, opportunities to reflect and connections between the experience and everyday life.
Explore how your programme is designed ↗The emphasis can be shaped around your school's priorities and the developmental needs of the grade.
Create opportunities to build relationships, appreciate different perspectives and find common ground through shared experience.
Explore what it means to contribute, take initiative, make decisions and be accountable to a group.
Encounter manageable challenges, respond to changing circumstances and practise finding a way forward.
Practise listening, sharing ideas, navigating differences and working towards a common goal.
Notice the needs of others, recognise different capabilities and consider how individual choices affect the wider group.
Develop awareness of the natural world and consider what it means to move through, care for and leave a place well.
We create space for learners to explore what the experience meant, what they noticed about themselves and others, and how those insights might apply beyond the expedition.
Take part in a purposeful activity or shared responsibility.
Notice choices, responses, relationships and group dynamics.
Explore where the learning might be useful back at school and beyond.
The goal isn't simply to bring a grade together in the outdoors. It's to create meaningful opportunities for them to learn with one another, about themselves and through the world around them.
GRITC OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP CENTREEvery school has its own culture, priorities, timetable and learners. INDLELA starts with understanding yours, then shaping an outdoor learning experience around what matters most.
INDLELA can be explored as a single-day experience, a shorter multi-day programme or a longer camp-to-camp expedition. The right format depends on your objectives, available time, learner group and what is feasible on the ground.
Our flagship format: 7–10 days. This creates room for a more connected expedition, with changing landscapes, shared responsibilities and learning that develops across multiple stages.
These are the starting points for a conversation, not boxes you need to tick before getting in touch.
The number of learners, group dynamics, developmental stage and practical needs of the cohort.
The priorities the school wants to explore, from leadership and connection to responsibility and collaboration.
Available dates, school calendars, travel windows and the amount of time needed to meet your intended outcomes.
Suitable terrain, access, campsite options, environmental conditions and the opportunities a location can offer.
The mix of hiking, camp craft, problem-solving and other suitable activities that supports the programme's purpose.
Appropriate staffing, activity-specific controls, permissions, transport, group management and contingency planning.
GRITC OLC works as a mobile outdoor leadership centre, exploring suitable landscapes and locations for each programme rather than relying on a single fixed camp.
The Garden Route is our home ground, with possibilities beyond it considered according to the school, route, logistics and programme requirements.
Start with the purposeUnderstand what the school wants learners to experience.
Find the right settingExplore suitable terrain, access and overnight options.
Design the programmeConnect activities, movement, group structure and learning.
The programme is developed in conversation with the school. Expectations, learner needs, staff responsibilities and practical constraints are discussed before the expedition is finalised. The final plan remains subject to suitable locations, permissions, staffing, conditions and safety requirements.
You don't need a finished plan. Bring your ideas, your objectives and the realities your school is working with. We can start there.
INTRODUCING GRITC INDLELA
An entire grade, brought together through a purposeful outdoor expedition. Designed around your school, shaped by the landscape and built around experiences that give learners room to discover, contribute and grow.
Plan Your School's INDLELA ↗Start with a conversation. We'll explore the possibilities together.
Designed for your cohort, objectives and practical needs.
A format shaped around the experience you want to create.
Adventure as the vehicle. Meaningful learning as the intention.
You don't need a finished itinerary or every detail figured out. A conversation about your grade and what you'd like the experience to achieve is enough to begin.
Who is coming, and what does the cohort look like?
What would make this experience valuable for your school?
What does your school calendar allow?
Budget, logistics, learner needs or anything else we should consider.
We don't simply take learners somewhere. We design what happens when they get there.
